First glimpse of terminal building at Sydney's new $5 billion airport

It is an exciting time for Western Sydney with a major airport, thriving business, housing and education magnet incoming over the next decade. Western Sydney’s first airport (Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport) promises to bring in tens of thousands of jobs, with a commercial focus on airport and tourism, health and education, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence and agribusiness for the region expected to grow by 900,000 people by 2031.

Along with the airport, 4.1 billion dollars in funding will go towards upgrading road connections which will benefit the rising population of the region. Looking to alleviate the pressure on existing infrastructure and open up the region's economic capacity by reducing congestion and travel times.

The The Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan program includes:

  • the upgrade of The Northern Road to a minimum of four lanes from Narellan to Jamison Road, Penrith.

  • construction of a new east-west motorway to the airport between the M7 Motorway and The Northern Road (to be known as the M12 Motorway).

  • upgrade of Bringelly Road to a minimum of four lanes between The Northern Road and Camden Valley Way.

  • construction of the Werrington Arterial Road by upgrading Kent Road and Gipps Street to four lanes between the Great Western Highway and the M4 Motorway.

  • upgrade of the intersection of Ross Street and the Great Western Highway.

  • a $200 million package for local roads upgrades, to be delivered across four rounds over ten years.
